The structural argument
The chat UI model has a defined shape: you open an interface, type a prompt, read a response, and close. Every interaction requires a user-initiated session. The model presupposes presence. You must be there for the work to happen.
The invisible-agent model eliminates that presupposition. The agent is assigned a task, a scope, and a schedule. It runs. When you next look, the output is there. You were not present during execution. There was no interface to open. The work happened because the agent ran, not because you prompted it.

Notion sunsetted a native email application because its users had already solved the email-adjacent task category using AI agents — without an interface. The app was not outcompeted. It was made redundant by a model that does not require an interface to deliver the outcome.
These two signals land in the same place from different directions. Adrafinil describes infrastructure for invisible execution. Notion describes the commercial consequence of invisible execution reaching adoption scale. The macro thesis that connects them: the dominant interaction model for AI is moving from session-initiated chat to scheduled, event-driven, outcome-delegated execution that requires no user session at all.
